Introduction
Dato Paduka Awang Haji Ali bin Apong is a Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance since 2004. He was awarded the Datukship (Order of the Mahkota Brunei Second Class - DPMB) in July 2005 by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

Dato Haji Ali was appointed as the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Finance on 21 October 2004. Prior to this, he was the Acting Managing Director of Brunei Investment Agency (BIA).
Dato Haji Ali has served the BIA since 1983 as investment officer and he was appointed as the Assistant Managing Director of BIA on 1 September 1997. In 1999, he was posted to the Ministry of Finance as a member of the team in setting up the Brunei International Financial Centre (BIFC) where he remained till early 2002. He then resumed his position as the Assistant Managing Director of Brunei Investment Agency.
Apart from his duty as the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Dato Haji Ali is also a member on various boards such as Brunei Currency and Monetary Board, Brunei Tourism Board and Board of Directors of Employees Provident Fund, Brunei Investment Agency, Brunei National Petroleum Company, Jerambak Holdings Pty. Ltd., Brunei Shell Petroleum Co. Sdn. Bhd. (BSP) and Brunei Liquefied Gas (BLNG). He also sit in the Board of SEACEN.
Dato Haji Ali received his BA in Economics from University of Reading, England. He also graduated with MBA from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of London, England and also holds a Diploma in Management from the same university.
