PEHIN ORANG KAYA AMAR PAHLAWAN DATO SERI SETIA AWANG HAJI ZAKARIA BIN HAJI SULAIMAN
Introduction
Pehin Dato Zakaria was born on 22nd June 1937. He had his early Primary education at Sekolah Melayu Berakas and study at SOAS College until 1957. He studied Law at the University of Birmingham, England and was called to the Bar at the Middle Temple, London in 1965. On his return from studies overseas, he joined the Government Service as an Administrative Officer in 1965. While in the Civil Service, he had held various posts such as a Magistrate, Deputy Controller of Immigration and Registrar of Nationals, Commissioner of Land, Director of Economic Development Board, Director of Establishment and as Private Secretary to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan. He was appointed Permanent Secretary (Political) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1984 when Brunei obtained independence. In 1986, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and relinguished his post as Civil Servant.
Pehin Dato Zakaria served as the Minister of Communications from 1st January 1989 to 23rd May 2005.
Pehin Dato Zakaria was awarded several honours including PSNB; DSLJ; SNB; PHBS and PJK. He was conferred a title of PEHIN ORANG KAYA AMAR PAHLAWAN in 1996.
Pehin Dato Zakaria is married to Datin Paduka Hajah Jusnani binti Haji Lawie and blessed with five children and ten grandchildren. He plays Golf and likes `Gardening.
